Calcium and Vitamin D

Calcium is one of the very important minerals  to maintain an optimum health.The main sources of  natural Calcium are dairy products such as skim milk; low fat yogurt; and different types of cheese.Some vegetables such as Broccoli; Kale;spinach etc are also rich in Calcium  as well as salmon; sardine and oyster shell. Calcium plus Vitamin D reduce bone loss and work together to decrease de risk of osteoporosis usually  in post menopausal woman. They also are recommended  to slow down arthritis.

Vitamin D is synthesized in the body by the action of sun rays on the skin, this helps the body to absorb calcium. Considering there is not enough sunny days in  winter it is recommended to take 1,000 to 2,000 units of vitamin D supplement daily. Vitamin D and Calcium maintain healthy teeth teeth. The best recommended calcium supplement is Calcium Carbonate. The amount of calcium supplements to take depends on the age. Men 25 to 50 years of age 800 milligrams daily. Woman  the same age 1000 milligrams daily. Men over 65  years 1500mgs. All women over 50 years 1500mgs. In Japan in certain Japanese islands people drink a natural coral water which  has a high content of minerals. They live longer than other Japanese people.
